Government Likely to Resume New Domestic LNG Gas Connections from September
ISLAMABAD: The federal government is expected to review the suspension on new domestic LNG gas connections in September, with officials indicating that the ban could be lifted if gas supplies improve as anticipated.
According to official sources, LNG availability in Pakistan is expected to improve after Qatar’s force majeure on LNG supplies concludes in August.
Gas Supply Expected to Improve
Officials said improved LNG imports, along with a possible decline in demand from the power sector, could ease pressure on the country’s gas supply system.
The government will assess the overall supply situation in September before making a final decision on resuming new domestic LNG connections.
Ban Was Imposed Due to Supply Shortages
The Ministry of Petroleum suspended new domestic LNG connections in May following supply constraints.
After the official notification was issued, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) stopped issuing new demand notices for domestic LNG connections.
The suspension currently applies to all new residential applications submitted under both regular and urgent processing categories.
Final Decision Expected After September Review
Officials emphasized that no final decision has yet been taken and that the government will review gas availability before announcing any changes.
If supply conditions improve as expected, new domestic LNG connections could resume from September, providing relief to applicants waiting for new gas connections.
The government says any decision will be based on maintaining a stable gas supply while meeting consumer demand across the country.
