Government Revises Fuel Prices: Petrol Reduced, Diesel Increased
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced revised fuel prices, lowering the price of petrol while increasing the rate of high-speed diesel (HSD). The new prices took effect from July 30, 2026.
According to an official notification issued by the Petroleum Division:
- Petrol: Reduced by Rs0.75 per litre to Rs335.06 per litre
- High-Speed Diesel (HSD): Increased by Rs2.24 per litre to Rs390.62 per litre
Fuel Pricing to Be Reviewed Daily
Earlier, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced that fuel prices would now be reviewed on a daily basis instead of weekly, allowing prices to better reflect changes in international oil markets.
The government said the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will determine fuel prices based on global market trends and other relevant factors.
Impact on Consumers
Petrol is widely used by private vehicle owners, motorcycles, rickshaws, and small transport vehicles, making its price an important factor for everyday commuters.
High-speed diesel is primarily used in heavy transport, agriculture, industrial machinery, power generation, and commercial vehicles. Any change in diesel prices can influence transportation and logistics costs.
Industry Response
The announcement has received mixed reactions from stakeholders. Some industry representatives have expressed concerns over the shift to daily fuel pricing and are reviewing its potential impact on the petroleum sector.
The government says the revised pricing mechanism is intended to improve responsiveness to international energy market fluctuations while ensuring timely adjustments for consumers.
