KP Likely to Experience Intense Heatwave in April and May

 Apr 14, 2026

Pakistan is expected to witness a significant rise in temperatures during the summer of 2026, with forecasts indicating severe heatwave conditions in several regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, temperatures are likely to increase sharply in the coming weeks. Both upper areas and major urban centers of the province may face prolonged periods of extreme heat.

Early-year climate data has shown an unusual pattern, with temperatures rising rapidly despite above-average rainfall recorded in April.

Deputy Director Muhammad Faheem Khan stated that initial heatwave warnings have already been issued for parts of the country, including Lahore and Sindh. Similar conditions are now developing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Districts such as Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, and Charsadda are expected to be among the most affected during April and May.

The department is working in coordination with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority to ensure timely alerts and preparedness measures.

Authorities have advised residents to limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. During the 2025 heatwave, Rescue 1122 reported around 935 affected individuals across the province, including cases of heatstroke and dehydration.
