Lahore Introduces New Entry Restrictions for Tractor Trolleys
Lahore Traffic Police has introduced new restrictions on the movement of tractor trolleys in the city as part of efforts to reduce road accidents and improve traffic safety.
Officials said tractor trolleys make up less than 1% of the vehicles operating in Lahore but have been linked to a significantly higher share of fatal crashes. According to available data, around 73,000 tractor trolleys are registered in the city, while 18 fatal accidents involving these vehicles have been reported so far this year.
Tractor Trolley Entry Restricted During Daytime
Under the new traffic rules, tractor trolleys will not be allowed to enter Lahore between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Traffic police officials have been directed to ensure that the restricted timings are properly implemented.
The measure is aimed at limiting the movement of heavy agricultural vehicles during busy hours when traffic volumes are generally higher.
Mandatory Safety Requirements
Authorities have also introduced several safety requirements for tractor trolleys operating on roads. Owners and drivers will be required to ensure that their vehicles have:
- Full tarpaulin covers where required
- Proper rear lights
- Reflective tape for better visibility
- Adequate lighting during nighttime travel
These measures are intended to make tractor trolleys more visible to other motorists, particularly after dark.
Action Against Overloading and Dangerous Driving
Traffic police have also instructed drivers to carry a valid driving licence for the relevant vehicle category.
Circle officers have been directed to take action against violations including overloading, speeding and reckless or dangerous driving. Officials said enforcement teams will closely monitor compliance with the new requirements.
Increased Monitoring on Major Roads
Lahore Traffic Police will also strengthen surveillance on major roads to identify violations and reduce the risk of accidents involving tractor trolleys.
Authorities said the new measures are focused on improving road safety and reducing fatalities by ensuring that tractor trolleys follow designated movement timings and basic safety standards.
