Manchester City Women Draw 1-1 With Real Madrid

Khadija Shaw scores after Linda Caicedo puts Real Madrid ahead
LONDON: Manchester City Women were held to a 1-1 draw by Real Madrid in the Women’s Champions League on Thursday after both teams scored once.
Real Madrid took the lead in the 29th minute when Colombian forward Linda Caicedo found the net to put the visitors ahead.
Manchester City, the reigning English champions, improved after the interval and increased the pressure on Real Madrid’s defence.
Their efforts paid off in the 51st minute when Khadija Shaw converted a chance to bring City level.
Real Madrid appeared to have scored a late winner in the final minute when Silvia Cristobal put the ball into the net. However, the goal was disallowed by referee Silvia Gasperotti after she was involved in a collision with Manchester City’s Beth Mead during the build-up.
The decision meant the match ended 1-1, leaving both Manchester City and Real Madrid with two draws from their opening two matches.
Shaw said after the game that Manchester City performed better in the second half and continued fighting until the final whistle.
Barcelona Maintain Strong Start
Elsewhere in the Women’s Champions League, Inter Milan were held to a 1-1 draw by Austria Vienna.
Modesta Uka scored Austria Vienna’s first goal in the competition, but Inter captain Ivana Andres equalised in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
The result left Barcelona as the only team with six points after two rounds. The defending champions had recorded a convincing victory over Roma on Wednesday.
Paris Saint-Germain also secured a comfortable win, defeating Belgian side Leuven 5-0.
Rasheedat Ajibade opened the scoring after nine minutes before Naomie Feller added two goals in the second half. Sakina Karchaoui and Vitoria Yaya completed the scoring for PSG.
In Denmark, HB Koge recorded a 5-1 victory over Switzerland’s Servette in a match between two teams that had lost their opening games.
