Marizanne Kapp Guides South Africa to Thrilling Victory Over India in Women’s T20 World Cup

South Africa strengthened their hopes of reaching the Women’s T20 World Cup semi-finals with a hard-fought six-wicket victory over India in an exciting Group A contest at Old Trafford on Sunday.

All-rounder Marizanne Kapp delivered a standout performance, scoring an unbeaten 81 runs and contributing with the ball earlier in the match. Her efforts helped South Africa successfully chase a target of 159 with five balls remaining.

India made a positive start after being invited to bat, but were unable to fully capitalize on their momentum. South Africa’s bowlers kept the scoring under control, with Kapp also making an impact by taking two wickets.

The run chase began cautiously for South Africa, who managed only 25 runs during the powerplay. However, Kapp and Tazmin Brits turned the match around with an impressive partnership that stabilized the innings and shifted the momentum in South Africa’s favor.

Kapp played a decisive role in the closing stages, striking crucial boundaries and guiding her team toward victory. Chloe Tryon then sealed the win with a boundary in the final overs.

The result moves South Africa level with India on four points in Group A, while Australia remain at the top of the standings with three consecutive victories.

West Indies Continue Winning Run

In Group B, the West Indies recorded their third straight win of the tournament after overcoming Sri Lanka. Despite chasing a modest target, the Caribbean side faced some resistance before reaching the target.

Veteran batter Stafanie Taylor played a key role with an unbeaten innings, while captain Hayley Matthews impressed with the ball to help restrict Sri Lanka to a low total.

The victory also confirmed the elimination of Ireland from the competition.

England Maintain Perfect Record

England continued their strong campaign with a convincing 38-run win over Scotland in another Group B encounter.

Strong batting performances from Sophia Dunkley, Alice Capsey, and Freya Kemp helped England post a competitive total. Scotland battled throughout their chase but were unable to keep pace, as England’s bowlers maintained control to secure a third consecutive victory.
