National Assembly Passes Finance Bill 2026–27 with Amendments

The National Assembly on Tuesday approved the Finance Bill 2026 for the fiscal year 2026–27 after incorporating several government-backed amendments during a session marked by opposition protests.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb presented the bill in the House, where the proposed amendments were approved by a majority vote. However, amendments submitted by opposition members were rejected.

Following the approval of the bill, the session was adjourned and is scheduled to resume on Wednesday at 11:00 am.

Budget Overview

Earlier this month, the federal government presented a Rs. 18.77 trillion budget for FY 2026–27. The budget includes measures aimed at providing relief to salaried individuals and offering tax incentives to exporters, as well as the real estate and construction sectors.

Officials stated that these measures are part of broader efforts to support economic activity, encourage investment, and achieve a projected economic growth target of around 4 percent.

Revenue Targets for FY27

Despite facing a projected revenue shortfall in the current fiscal year, the government has set a tax collection target of Rs. 15.264 trillion for FY27.

The revised estimate for the current fiscal year stands at approximately Rs. 12.983 trillion, reflecting an expected increase in revenue collection of around 17.6 percent for the next year.
