Nelly Korda Opens Strong with 65 to Lead by Two at The Chevron Championship
Nelly Korda made an impressive start at The Chevron Championship, shooting a 7-under 65 to take a two-shot lead after the opening round.
Confident Opening Round
Playing at Memorial Park, Korda relied on a solid putting performance early in her round before gaining momentum on the back nine. Her consistent play helped her establish an early lead in the tournament.
The world-class golfer showed strong control on a rain-affected course, managing conditions well and avoiding major mistakes throughout her round.
Key Competitors Close Behind
Patty Tavatanakit posted a bogey-free 67 to stay within two shots of the lead. Tavatanakit previously won the same major in 2021 when it was known as the ANA Inspiration.
Somi Lee also finished two shots behind Korda after a steady round, though a late bogey dropped her back into a tie for second place.
Amateur golfer Farah O’Keefe also impressed early but slipped slightly after a missed putt on the final hole.
Korda’s Strong Form Continues
Korda has been in consistent form this season, regularly finishing near the top in recent tournaments and opening the year with a win.
She continued that momentum with a composed performance, particularly on the par-5 holes and challenging par-3s, where she gained key strokes.
Tournament Outlook
Korda acknowledged that the tournament is still in its early stages, noting that much can change over the remaining rounds.
With three rounds still to play, she will look to maintain her lead as competition intensifies at the season’s first major.
