The National Hockey League (NHL) has announced that the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs recorded the highest television viewership in U.S. history.
According to the league, the postseason averaged around 1.8 million viewers, surpassing the previous record set in 1996. This represents a significant increase compared to last year’s audience figures.
Broadcast data also indicates that the Stanley Cup Final saw strong viewership levels, marking one of the most-watched championship series in recent years.
The NHL noted that overall sports viewership trends have shown growth, with several factors contributing, including updated audience measurement methods and increasing interest in hockey across different demographics.
The league also highlighted growing engagement from new audiences, alongside broader exposure through international tournaments and entertainment media.
Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup Final in six games against the Vegas Golden Knights, concluding the 2026 playoff season.
