Online Taxi Driver Arrested in Lahore for Allegedly Using Fake Government Number Plate

LAHORE: Police in Lahore have arrested an online taxi driver for allegedly using a fake government number plate on a private vehicle during an operation in the Gulberg area.

According to officials, the suspect was driving a private car fitted with an unauthorized green government-style registration plate while providing ride-hailing services. Authorities said the plate was allegedly used to conceal the vehicle’s actual identity.

The suspect, identified as Roheel, was taken into custody, and a case has been registered at Gulberg Police Station. Investigations are underway to determine the full circumstances of the incident.

Traffic officials said the use of fake or unauthorized registration plates is a violation of the law and can create security concerns by making it difficult to identify vehicles.

A spokesperson for the City Traffic Police Lahore also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve passenger safety in public transport. As part of these measures, QR-linked panic buttons are being installed in online taxi vehicles and rickshaws to help passengers quickly report emergencies and improve vehicle identification.

Officials reiterated that action will continue against individuals found using fake registration plates or violating traffic laws, emphasizing that such measures are intended to enhance road safety and public security.
