Pakistan Approves Rs. 5.7 Billion to Upgrade Sports Facilities Ahead of SAF Games

Pakistan has approved a development package worth Rs. 5.7 billion to improve sports infrastructure ahead of the upcoming South Asian Federation (SAF) Games, with authorities aiming to ensure that venues are fully prepared to host athletes from across the region.
The development package was approved by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) during a meeting chaired by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman and Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal.
Major Upgrades Planned at Pakistan Sports Complex
The approved projects include significant improvements to facilities at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad, along with upgrades to sports infrastructure at selected venues in other cities.
Officials said the projects are intended to improve the quality, functionality and operational preparedness of facilities that will be used during the regional multi-sport competition.
The upgrades are also expected to provide better facilities for Pakistani athletes and visiting teams beyond the SAF Games.
IPC Ministry Welcomes Development Package
Secretary of the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani welcomed the approval and described it as an important development for Pakistan’s sports sector.
Wani appreciated the support provided by the federal government and Planning Commission for improving the country’s sports infrastructure.
He said the Rs. 5.7 billion package would contribute to preparations for successfully hosting the regional event.
According to Wani, the upgraded Pakistan Sports Complex and other venues will offer improved facilities to athletes and participating teams while creating long-term benefits for sports development in the country.
Projects to Be Completed Before Games
The IPC Ministry will coordinate with the Planning Commission and other relevant departments and stakeholders to ensure that the approved projects are implemented efficiently and completed within the required timeframe.
The government is focusing on venue readiness as Pakistan prepares to welcome athletes and teams from different South Asian countries.
SAF Games Scheduled for April
The SAF Games are scheduled to take place in Pakistan from April 3 to April 11, with competitions planned at different venues.
The Rs. 5.7 billion investment is expected to play a key role in preparing the required facilities for the event while also supporting the development of Pakistan’s sports infrastructure over the longer term.
