Pakistan Cleared to Compete in 2025 Hockey Asia Cup in India

In a positive development for sports diplomacy, Pakistan’s national hockey team has received official clearance to participate in the upcoming 12th Hockey Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in Rajgir, India, from August 27 to September 7, 2025.

There had been uncertainty surrounding Pakistan’s participation due to ongoing political tensions between the two countries. However, a spokesperson from India’s Sports Ministry confirmed that there are no objections to Pakistan’s inclusion in the multinational event. The official clarified, “We are not against any team competing in India in a multi-national competition. But bilateral is different.”

This decision allows Pakistan to proceed with preparations for the tournament, which serves as a crucial qualifying event for the 2026 Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup.

Despite this clearance, the final decision now rests with the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF). While the PHF has expressed a strong interest in competing, there have been discussions about requesting a hybrid model, similar to arrangements seen in cricket tournaments involving teams from both countries.

The 2025 Hockey Asia Cup will gather top teams from across Asia, providing a platform for competitive hockey and potential World Cup qualification. As logistical matters are being addressed, hockey fans from both nations can look forward to an exciting tournament ahead.

Stay tuned for further updates as tournament plans and match schedules are finalized.
