Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Saudi Arabia’s Security Amid Houthi Attacks
Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to the security of Saudi Arabia amid renewed attacks by Yemen’s Houthi movement, with Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry saying Islamabad would take whatever measures are required to support the kingdom.
Speaking in an interview with Arab News, the military spokesperson said Pakistan stands with Saudi Arabia both diplomatically and physically. He described the country’s commitment to Saudi security as unconditional.
Pakistan Stresses Commitment to Saudi Security
Lt Gen Chaudhry said Pakistan would continue supporting Saudi Arabia against aggression and emphasised the importance Islamabad places on the security of the kingdom and the two holy sites in Makkah and Madinah.
He also said Pakistan’s political and military leadership remains in regular communication with Saudi authorities regarding the developing regional situation.
According to the ISPR chief, Pakistan’s position is based on longstanding ties between the two countries and their respective institutions.
Houthi Attacks Increase Regional Tensions
The statements come as fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement has intensified.
Recent attacks have involved missiles and drones targeting Saudi territory, while Saudi forces have carried out strikes against Houthi positions in Yemen. The escalation has also raised concerns about regional security and the safety of important energy and shipping routes.
Saudi authorities have also reported an attempted drone attack near Makkah, while Houthi officials have denied responsibility for the incident.
Pakistan Also Calls for Diplomatic Solution
Alongside its security commitments, Pakistan has continued to call for a negotiated settlement to the wider regional crisis.
Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said Pakistan supports addressing the Houthi issue through dialogue and diplomacy rather than coercive measures. Islamabad has also been communicating with regional countries as part of efforts to reduce tensions.
Pakistan’s military spokesperson similarly said Islamabad was working with regional partners to seek a peaceful outcome to the situation.
Defence Agreements With Saudi Arabia
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement in 2025 under which an attack on either country is treated as an act of aggression against both.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye also signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in August 2026. The agreement is intended to strengthen collective deterrence and defence cooperation among the three countries.
Pakistani officials have described the arrangement as defensive in nature, while operational details of the agreement have not been publicly disclosed.
Pakistan Maintains Diplomatic Engagement
Despite its strong security commitment to Saudi Arabia, Islamabad has continued diplomatic engagement with countries in the region.
Pakistani officials have said their priority is to support efforts aimed at reducing hostilities and finding a negotiated solution to the wider conflict.
The latest statements therefore combine Pakistan’s declared security commitment to Saudi Arabia with its continuing emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy as regional tensions remain high.
