PCB May Take Disciplinary Action Against Imam-ul-Haq Over Lord’s Test Injury

Pakistan batter Imam-ul-Haq could face serious disciplinary action following concerns surrounding the injury that kept him from batting during the second Test against England at Lord’s, according to sources.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly preparing to form a high-level investigation committee to examine the circumstances surrounding Imam’s calf injury.
Sources suggest that the batter could potentially face a suspension of between one and two years if the investigation establishes serious misconduct.
PCB Reviews Imam’s Injury
Imam suffered a low-grade calf strain while fielding on the opening day of the Lord’s Test.
He did not bat in Pakistan’s first innings the following day, when the team was dismissed for 110 after England had posted 290.
The batter was also unavailable during Pakistan’s second innings. Pakistan were chasing a target of 389 but were bowled out for 194, resulting in a defeat and a series loss.
The circumstances surrounding Imam’s absence have reportedly prompted the PCB to launch a detailed review.
Previous Injury Controversy Resurfaces
The latest situation has also brought renewed attention to an earlier incident involving Imam during Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in March 2025.
According to sources, a PCB inquiry committee previously examined an incident in which Imam was struck on his right big toe by a delivery during an indoor training session on March 28, 2025.
The committee reportedly found him responsible for providing inaccurate or exaggerated information about his injury and misleading medical personnel.
It also reportedly concluded that the incident was linked to an attempt to make himself unavailable for Pakistan’s opening ODI of the tour.
Rizwan Also Under PCB Scrutiny
Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan is also reportedly facing disciplinary concerns within the PCB.
Sources claim the board has reservations about his conduct and may question him about the matter in the coming days.
Rizwan is also reportedly unlikely to be selected for a Pakistan team in the immediate future.
Major Changes to Pakistan’s Test Squad
Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan were among the players released by the PCB as part of significant changes to Pakistan’s Test squad ahead of the third and final match of the series against England.
Any potential disciplinary action against the two players will depend on the PCB’s review and the findings of the relevant investigation process.
