PEMRA Directs TV Channels to Submit Cybersecurity Implementation Plans
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has instructed all satellite television channel licensees to submit a detailed cybersecurity implementation roadmap within three working days as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s broadcast infrastructure.
According to an official notification, broadcasters have also been asked to complete key cybersecurity measures by August 4.
Cybersecurity Measures Required
PEMRA has directed television channels to provide implementation timelines for several security initiatives, including:
- Independent third-party cybersecurity audits.
- Deployment or outsourcing of Security Operations Centers (SOC).
- Implementation of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems.
- Appointment of Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs).
The regulator said these measures are intended to improve cybersecurity preparedness across Pakistan’s electronic media sector.
Technical Meeting Scheduled
PEMRA has also scheduled a technical meeting at its Islamabad headquarters to discuss issues related to satellite uplink frequency interference.
The authority has requested television channels to ensure the participation of their Chief Technical Officers (CTOs) and Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs).
In addition, SUPARCO and Paksat International Limited have been asked to nominate technical experts to participate in the discussions.
Focus on Cybersecurity Preparedness
The latest directives follow a cybersecurity awareness session held with officials from the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT).
During the session, broadcasters received guidance on cybersecurity practices, risk management strategies, and measures to enhance the protection of broadcast infrastructure and digital platforms.

PEMRA’s latest initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance cybersecurity standards within Pakistan’s media industry and improve resilience against evolving digital security challenges.
The regulator has emphasized the importance of timely implementation of the required measures to support secure and reliable broadcasting operations across the country.
