PM Shehbaz Sharif Arrives in Kyrgyzstan for Three-Day SCO Visit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Kyrgyzstan for a three-day official visit, where he will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and represent Pakistan on regional and international matters.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Bishkek on Monday for an official visit scheduled from August 31 to September 2.

The visit is being held at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov. Upon his arrival at Manas International Airport, the prime minister was received by Adylbek Kasymaliev, chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif will address the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting and present Pakistan’s position on key regional and global issues.

Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar are accompanying the prime minister.

PM to Attend Key SCO Meetings

During his stay in Bishkek, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will participate in the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting as well as the SCO Plus Summit.

Pakistan is also scheduled to assume the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for the 2026-27 term.

The prime minister is expected to hold bilateral meetings with leaders from participating countries on the sidelines of the summit. Discussions will cover bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.

Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Relations

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also scheduled to meet Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov on September 2.

The two sides are expected to review the overall relationship between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan and discuss ways to expand cooperation in several areas.

Key areas include trade, investment, energy, regional connectivity, education, tourism and people-to-people contacts.

The leaders will also exchange views on regional and international developments and cooperation through regional and multilateral organisations.

PM to Attend World Nomad Games Ceremony

During his visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games on August 31.

The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan to strengthen bilateral ties and explore new avenues for economic, educational and regional cooperation.

SCO Marks 25 Years

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is marking its 25th anniversary this year. The organisation currently has 10 member states: Pakistan, China, India, Iran, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Afghanistan and Mongolia hold observer status.

Pakistan will take over the SCO Council of Heads of State chairmanship for the 2026-27 period. The next summit of the council is also expected to be hosted by Islamabad.
