Punjab Clarifies Minimum Age for Different Driving Licenses

The City Traffic Police Lahore has clarified the minimum age and eligibility requirements for obtaining different types of driving licenses in Punjab.

According to the traffic police, applicants must be at least 18 years old to obtain a regular motorcycle or motor car/jeep driving license.

For commercial driving licenses, the age requirement is higher. Applicants for an LTV license must be at least 21 years old, while an HTV license generally requires applicants to be at least 22 years old.

HTV License Requirements

Applicants seeking an HTV license must also meet certain previous-license requirements. Traffic police guidance in Rawalpindi and Faisalabad states that applicants should have held a Motor Car or LTV license for at least three years before applying for an HTV learner permit.

Juvenile Driving Permit

Punjab also offers a separate Juvenile Driving Permit for teenagers aged between 16 and 18 years.

The permit allows eligible teenagers to ride motorcycles or scooters with an engine capacity of up to 125cc, subject to specified conditions.

Applicants are required to provide a NADRA Smart Card or B-Form and obtain written consent from a parent or guardian. They must also pass the required traffic-sign and practical driving tests.

Helmet use is mandatory, and the permit may be cancelled in cases involving serious or repeated traffic violations.

Regular License Age Remains 18

The juvenile permit does not reduce the minimum age for a regular motorcycle or car driving license.

Applicants must still be 18 years old to obtain a standard motorcycle, motor car or jeep license. The minimum age and experience requirements for LTV and HTV licenses remain higher.

The clarification is intended to provide applicants with clear information about the age and eligibility conditions for different driving license categories in Punjab.
