Punjab Imposes Temporary Pillion Riding Ban on 9th and 10th Muharram
The Punjab government has announced a temporary ban on pillion riding across the province on 9th and 10th Muharram, which fall on June 25 and 26, as part of security arrangements.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, Section 144 has been imposed to help maintain public order and ensure safety during religious gatherings and processions.
Authorities stated that the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to support law enforcement agencies in managing security during Muharram events.
The notification also includes restrictions on carrying weapons in public places and prohibits activities that may disturb peace or incite tension. Officials have urged citizens to cooperate with the administration to ensure a peaceful environment during the religious period.
However, the pillion riding restriction will not apply to women, children, senior citizens, journalists, and law enforcement personnel in uniform.
Police have been directed to enforce the orders strictly and take legal action against violations under relevant laws.
