Real Madrid Opposes Villarreal-Barcelona Match Being Played in Miami
Real Madrid has officially voiced its strong opposition to the proposal of holding the Villarreal vs. Barcelona match in Miami. In a formal statement, the club argued that moving the fixture away from its home stadium would break the parity between contenders and undermine the integrity of the competition.
The ‘Merengues’ revealed that they have already requested FIFA, UEFA, and the Higher Council of Sports to reject the RFEF’s proposal. According to the statement, relocating the match would grant an unfair sporting advantage, compromise results, and set a dangerous precedent for future competitions. “The integrity of the competition demands that all matches be played under equal conditions,” Real Madrid said.
The club also reminded authorities of the 2018 regulation that prevents official domestic matches from being played abroad except under exceptional circumstances — which Real Madrid argues do not apply here.
