Remco Evenepoel Claims Time-Trial Victory at Tour de France

Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel delivered an impressive performance to win the Stage 16 individual time trial of the Tour de France, completing the 26.1-kilometre course in the fastest time of the day.

The Olympic and world time-trial champion finished 28 seconds ahead of overall race leader Tadej Pogačar, securing another important stage victory in this year’s competition.

Valuable Time Gained in Overall Standings

Evenepoel’s victory reduced Pogačar’s advantage in the general classification, although the Slovenian rider continues to hold the overall lead.

Mattias Skjelmose of Denmark finished third in the stage, more than one minute behind the winner.

This marked Evenepoel’s second consecutive stage victory and his fourth Tour de France stage win overall, including his third victory in an individual time trial.

Emotional Win on Belgium’s National Day

Speaking after the race, Evenepoel described the victory as a memorable moment, especially because it came on Belgium’s National Day.

He said it was special to celebrate the win with his family, who were present to support him during the stage.

Mixed Day for the Team

While the victory was a major success for Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, the team also faced disappointment after rider Florian Lipowitz crashed during the time trial.

Lipowitz was forced to withdraw from the race following the accident. Medical staff attended to him after the crash, and the team expressed hope for his quick recovery.

Evenepoel also shared his support for his teammate, saying he wished him the very best.

Tour de France Continues

The Tour de France now moves into its next stages with the battle for the overall title still underway. Evenepoel’s strong recent performances have strengthened his position in the standings, while Pogačar continues to defend the race lead as the competition enters its final phase.
