Roadside explosion in KP’s Parachinar kills four

IED Blast in Upper Kurram’s Pewar Area Claims Four Lives, Injures Four Others

PARACHINAR – A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday in the Pewar area of Upper Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as an improvised explosive device (IED) blast claimed the lives of four individuals and injured four others.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Habibullah, the explosion occurred near Sharamkhel, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause and those potentially responsible for the attack.

Victims Identified

The deceased were identified as:

  • Nawab Ali

  • Amir Hussain

  • Hidayat Hussain

  • Manzar Ali

Mir Hassan Jan, Medical Superintendent of DHQ Parachinar Hospital, confirmed the identities and shared that the injured—Muhammad Konain, Shafaat Hussain, and Hassan Ghulam—received initial treatment and were transferred to Peshawar for advanced medical care.

Eyewitness Account

One of the injured, Hassan Ghulam, spoke to local media, stating that the group had been on their way to gather firewood when the blast occurred along the roadside. He condemned the attack, calling for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.

Tragically, two horses accompanying the group were also killed in the explosion.

Community Reaction

Local tribal elders strongly condemned the attack, urging authorities to conduct a thorough and high-level investigation. They emphasized that such violent acts threaten the fragile peace in the region and must be addressed swiftly.

Background: Region’s Troubled Past

This incident follows months of unrest in Kurram, which faced a complete shutdown in December last year after tribal clashes escalated. Over 100 lives were lost, and key routes like the Parachinar–Peshawar highway were blocked for nearly a month.

One of the deadliest episodes occurred in Bagan, where an attack on a convoy left at least 50 people dead, highlighting the region’s complex security challenges.
