Rubio Reaffirms US-UAE Partnership During Gulf Visit

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Wednesday to discuss regional developments, the recent US-Iran memorandum of understanding, and ongoing efforts to support stability across the Gulf region.

According to a statement from the US State Department, the two leaders exchanged views on diplomatic initiatives, regional security, and the importance of maintaining safe and efficient maritime trade routes.

Rubio also reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to its long-standing partnership with the United Arab Emirates and highlighted the importance of cooperation on regional and international issues.

The secretary of state arrived in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday evening and held talks with senior UAE officials, including National Security Adviser Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

During his visit, Rubio emphasized the significance of the Strait of Hormuz as a key international shipping route and underscored the importance of ensuring uninterrupted global trade and energy flows in accordance with international law.

The discussions are part of a broader regional tour that will also take Rubio to Kuwait and Bahrain, where he is expected to meet Gulf leaders and participate in a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) gathering.

Officials said the meetings will focus on regional cooperation, economic development, diplomatic engagement, and efforts to promote long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.

The recent memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran has opened the door for further negotiations on a range of issues. The agreement outlines a framework for continued dialogue, with both sides expected to engage in additional discussions over the coming weeks.

Regional leaders have welcomed diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and encouraging constructive engagement, while continuing consultations on issues of mutual interest and regional security.

Rubio’s Gulf visit reflects ongoing coordination between the United States and its regional partners as they work to strengthen cooperation, support economic growth, and encourage stability across the region.
