Sindh Health Minister Highlights Maternal Health Challenges at Family Planning Summit
Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho has highlighted the importance of improving maternal healthcare and strengthening family planning services while addressing a family planning summit in Karachi.
Speaking at the “Mother Remains Safe” conference held at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), the health minister discussed ongoing efforts to enhance maternal and child healthcare across the province.
Dr. Pechuho said the Sindh government has introduced a number of initiatives and legal reforms aimed at improving healthcare services for mothers and children. She added that authorities are continuing to work on measures designed to improve maternal health outcomes and expressed confidence that progress would become visible in the coming period.
During her address, the minister also discussed the increasing number of caesarean (C-section) deliveries, emphasizing the need for appropriate medical assessment and planning in maternal healthcare.
She further stated that women undergoing a third caesarean delivery would be offered family planning counseling and contraceptive options, in line with medical advice and patient consent.
Health experts generally recommend that decisions regarding childbirth methods and family planning be made on an individual basis after consultation with qualified healthcare professionals, taking into account the mother’s health and medical history.
