Spain Defeats Peru 3-1 in Final World Cup Warm-Up Match

Spain concluded its preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a convincing 3-1 victory over Peru in a friendly match played in Puebla, Mexico, on Monday.

Despite missing several key players due to injuries, Spain delivered a strong performance and showed positive signs ahead of its opening World Cup fixture.

Mikel Oyarzabal gave Spain an early advantage by finding the net just two minutes into the match. Midfielder Pedri extended the lead in the 32nd minute, helping Spain take control before halftime.

The Spanish side increased its advantage shortly after the break when Peru goalkeeper Pedro Gallese inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, making it 3-0 in the 53rd minute.

Peru managed to pull one goal back through Jairo Vélez in the 66th minute, but Spain comfortably maintained its lead to secure the win.

Spain was without several important players, including Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, and Víctor Muñoz, who remained at the team’s training camp while recovering from injuries. Head coach Luis de la Fuente expressed optimism that the trio could be available for Spain’s opening World Cup match.

Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has been sidelined since April due to a hamstring injury, but the coaching staff remains hopeful about his recovery ahead of the tournament.

Spain will begin its World Cup campaign against Cape Verde on June 15 in Atlanta. The team is also scheduled to face Saudi Arabia on June 21 and Uruguay on June 26 during the group stage.

With the tournament fast approaching, Spain will be encouraged by its strong performance and will look to carry that momentum into the World Cup.
