Train Engine Derails Near Kuchlak Railway Station in Balochistan

QUETTA: The engine of the recently launched Jinnah Peoples Train derailed near Kuchlak Railway Station on Sunday during routine shunting operations, causing a brief disruption to the service.

The train was operating on the Kuchlak-Sariab route and was preparing to leave for Quetta when the incident occurred. No passengers were injured, and all those on board remained safe.

Railway officials quickly arranged another engine to replace the affected locomotive. The train subsequently resumed its journey towards Sariab after a short delay.

Officials said engine No. 5120 came off the track on Line No. 3 while it was being reversed as part of routine shunting. Railway authorities initially suspected that the incident may have been linked to the alleged removal of a fishplate from the track.

However, Kuchlak police gave a different account, saying the derailment appeared to have occurred because of the poor condition of the railway track. Police said railway workers were also carrying out work in the area.

Railway authorities have ordered a formal investigation to determine the exact cause of the derailment and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident
