Trump Says US and China Reached ‘Fantastic’ Trade Agreements During Beijing Summit
US President Donald Trump said the United States and China reached “fantastic trade deals” during his latest summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.
The high-level meetings focused on trade, artificial intelligence, energy cooperation, and regional security issues, including tensions in the Middle East.
Trade Deals and Economic Talks
Speaking after the meetings, Trump said both countries had achieved positive progress and described Xi as a “great leader” and “friend.”
According to Trump, discussions included possible Chinese purchases of:
- Boeing aircraft
- US oil
- American soybeans
US officials also discussed creating “guardrails” for artificial intelligence cooperation between the world’s two largest economies.
The summit aimed to strengthen economic relations while addressing ongoing geopolitical differences between Washington and Beijing.
Strait of Hormuz and Middle East Discussions
Trump also claimed that Xi expressed support for reopening shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz amid regional tensions involving Iran.
China’s foreign ministry later called for a “comprehensive and lasting ceasefire” and urged that shipping lanes be reopened to support global trade and stability.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes.
Taiwan Remains Sensitive Issue
Despite positive trade discussions, Taiwan remained a key issue during the summit.
Chinese state media reported that Xi warned against actions that could increase tensions over Taiwan, saying missteps could damage relations between the two countries.
US officials indicated that more details about the discussions may be shared in the coming days.
Focus on Future Relations
The Beijing visit marked the first trip by an American president to China in nearly a decade.
During the summit, Xi spoke about the importance of avoiding conflict between rising and established global powers, while Trump later said he hoped relations between the United States and China would become “stronger and better than ever before.”
