Two Education Officials Suspended Over Corporal Punishment Incident in Taxila

Taxila: Two education officials in Fatehjang have been suspended following allegations that a sixth-grade student was subjected to physical punishment at a government school in Kamra.

The officials have been identified as Mohammad Hanif, headteacher, and Mohammad Saleem, an elementary science teacher at the Government Elementary Boys School, Kamra.

The District Education Authority has also ordered an inquiry into the incident after the student’s mother submitted a complaint regarding the alleged punishment.

Education Officials Face Disciplinary Action

Chief Executive Officer of the District Education Authority, Dr. Mohammad Azhar, confirmed the suspension and said disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against both officials.

The action has been taken under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act, 2006.

Authorities will investigate the allegations and determine whether any disciplinary violations occurred at the school.

Punjab Has Banned Corporal Punishment

The incident has renewed attention on the implementation of Punjab’s policy against physical punishment in educational institutions.

The Punjab School Education Department formally announced a ban on corporal punishment in schools across the province on January 23, 2018. The policy was introduced to promote a safer and more supportive learning environment for students.

Despite the ban, incidents involving allegations of physical punishment have continued to be reported from time to time.

The latest case has once again highlighted the importance of effective monitoring, awareness among teachers and proper enforcement of rules designed to protect students in educational institutions.

The inquiry will determine the facts of the case and whether further action is required against the officials involved.
