Usman Khan Makes Asian Games Debut in Japan

Pakistan’s leading eventing rider Usman Khan made his Asian Games debut in Japan on Tuesday, competing in the dressage and showjumping stages.

Khan finished 19th among 31 riders in dressage with 36.70 penalty points, while he placed 20th among 32 competitors in showjumping with 44.70 penalty points.

China’s Tian Hua Leads Dressage

China’s Tian Hua produced the leading performance in the dressage competition with 26.90 penalty points.

Thailand’s Korntawat Samran finished second with 29.70 points, while Japan’s Toshiyuki Tanaka secured third place with 29.90 points.

Khan completed the dressage stage in 19th position.

Showjumping Results

Khan then recorded 44.70 penalty points in showjumping to finish 20th.

Tian Hua also topped this stage with 26.90 points.

Thailand’s Woraphat Sihiju finished second with 30.10 points, followed by Japan’s Ryo Murata on 30.40 points.

Cross Country Next

The cross-country stage of the eventing competition is scheduled for Wednesday.

Khan said his horse, Mirage, appeared tired after travelling but still performed strongly during the jumping section.

He explained that two rails were dropped during the showjumping round, with both incidents involving the horse’s back feet.

“Mirage looked a bit tired because of travelling, but he jumped his heart out,” Khan said, adding that he would now focus on the cross-country stage.

First Asian Games Appearance

This is Khan’s first appearance at the Asian Games.

He had qualified for the previous three editions but was unable to participate because of financial difficulties.

The Pakistani rider will now look to complete his Asian Games campaign in the cross-country competition on Wednesday.
