Xiaomi 18 Pro Rear Screen Gets AI-Powered Mini Apps
Xiaomi is expanding the functionality of the secondary display on its upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro series, with the rear screen set to support AI-generated mini apps.
The feature was revealed through Xiaomi’s latest teaser campaign, showing how users will be able to create and use small applications directly from the rear display.
AI Apps Can Be Created on the Rear Display
Unlike traditional secondary-screen systems that offer a fixed selection of widgets, Xiaomi’s new feature will allow users to generate mini apps for specific tasks.
The company’s teaser video demonstrates several possible applications, including an egg-cooking timer, water-drinking reminder, Pomodoro focus timer, English vocabulary tool, and recipe recommendation card.
Users will also be able to pin frequently used mini apps to the rear screen, providing quicker access whenever they need them.
Rear Screen Builds on Xiaomi 17 Pro Feature
The new system is an expansion of the rear display introduced with the Xiaomi 17 Pro series.
Xiaomi previously referred to the feature as its MiShare back screen. According to the company, users interacted with app cards on the previous rear display more than 4 million times per day, while more than 3.5 million wallpapers were added daily.
These usage figures appear to have encouraged Xiaomi to further develop the secondary display and offer more functionality.
Xiaomi Plans More Uses for the Rear Display
Lu Weibing, Partner and President of Xiaomi Group, President of the Mobile Phone Division and General Manager of the Xiaomi brand, said users have different requirements for a secondary screen.
According to Xiaomi, the company is introducing more advanced solutions with the new generation to make the rear display useful for a wider range of everyday tasks.
The approach turns the rear screen into more than just an additional display, allowing users to access personalized tools and information.
Xiaomi 18 Pro Launch Expected This Month
Xiaomi has confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro series will launch in September 2026.
The company has described the upcoming series as one of the biggest upgrades in the history of its digital flagship lineup.
In addition to the AI-powered rear-screen features, the new smartphones are expected to bring improvements in performance, cameras, battery technology, and artificial intelligence capabilities.
