2 Upcoming Major Motorways to Have 6 Lanes Each

The federal government has announced plans to upgrade two major motorway sections in Punjab to six lanes as part of efforts to improve the country’s transport infrastructure.

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has directed authorities to construct the Sialkot–Kharian and Kharian–Rawalpindi motorway sections as six-lane highways.

The instructions were issued during a review meeting of the National Highway Authority (NHA), which was attended by senior officials including the communications secretary and the NHA chairman.

During the meeting, the minister stressed the need to speed up development work on key road infrastructure projects across the country. He also emphasized that all ongoing and upcoming schemes must follow strict technical standards and accurate feasibility assessments.

Officials were further directed to ensure timely completion of projects, with a focus on improving national connectivity and transport efficiency.

The minister also expressed concern over delays in several development projects and reiterated that timely completion of national infrastructure initiatives remains a top priority for the government.
