Dr Zakir Naik upset with PIA for denying free baggage, praises India instead

Dr. Zakir Naik’s Arrival in Pakistan Sparks Controversy Over Baggage Fees

Renowned preacher Dr. Zakir Naik arrived in Pakistan on September 30 for a month-long lecture tour, visiting major cities such as Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore. This trip marks his first visit to the country in 30 years, with his previous engagement dating back to 1992.

While addressing the public in Karachi, Dr. Naik shared his experience regarding excess luggage fees while traveling with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). He expressed his dissatisfaction over the airline’s offer of only a 50% discount on 500-600 kg of extra baggage, despite being designated as a state guest. Dr. Naik revealed that he had been in contact with the CEO of PIA regarding the issue.

“I was coming to Pakistan with a total luggage weight of 1,000 kg. When I spoke to the PIA CEO, the station manager assured me he would assist me. However, when I mentioned my extra luggage, I was offered just a 50% discount. I humorously suggested that if I bring four more people, it would be cheaper for me,” he explained. Dr. Naik expressed his expectation that the additional luggage would be waived without charge, a courtesy he claims is commonly extended to him in India.

“I rejected the offer,” he stated. “In India, I am often exempted from fees when they see me. They typically waive 1,000 kg to 2,000 kg when I travel there. I expected the same consideration in Pakistan, especially since my visa states that I am a government guest.”

His remarks have sparked debate online, with some defending his expectations for respect towards state guests, while others criticized his comments and the implied comparisons with his treatment in India.

Dr. Naik, originally from India, currently resides in Malaysia due to legal challenges in India, where he faces extradition requests related to various cases.
