Maryam Nawaz Urges Parents to Prioritize Children’s Safety After Recent Tragic Incidents

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has urged parents to take extra precautions to ensure their children’s safety, emphasizing that young children should not be left unattended or sent out alone.

She made these remarks while addressing the National Paigham-i-Aman Committee on Friday, following two recent tragic incidents in Punjab that raised serious concerns about child safety.

Referring to the reported murder of an eight-year-old girl in Sargodha, the chief minister said the child had gone alone to a nearby shop before the incident occurred. She noted that authorities were able to identify the suspect during the investigation and that she had immediately directed law enforcement agencies to take swift action.

Maryam Nawaz stressed that while the government can improve public services such as healthcare, education, and transportation, ensuring children’s day-to-day safety also requires active involvement from families.

She said parents should avoid leaving children unattended and encouraged them to accompany young children when visiting markets or other public places whenever possible.

The chief minister also spoke about the recent roof collapse at a private tuition centre in Lahore, which claimed the lives of several children. She expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended her sympathies to the affected families.

She urged parents to carefully assess the safety standards of schools, tuition centres, and other educational institutions before enrolling their children, emphasizing the importance of secure learning environments.

Maryam Nawaz added that preventing such tragedies requires a shared commitment from government institutions, educational facilities, communities, and families alike. She called on citizens to work together to promote child safety and help create a more secure environment for children across the province.
