Free WiFi is Now Available in Another Punjab City

Punjab Government Launches Free Wi-Fi in Rahim Yar Khan to Boost Digital Access

RAHIM YAR KHAN – In a major step toward improving digital connectivity, the Punjab government has officially launched free public Wi-Fi in key areas of Rahim Yar Khan, allowing residents to enjoy complimentary internet access at multiple public locations.

The initiative, launched on Monday, is part of the broader vision to create a more connected Punjab. Citizens in Rahim Yar Khan can now access free Wi-Fi at popular spots such as:

  • Adda Khanpur

  • City Pull

  • School Bazaar

  • Railway Station

  • Jail Chowk

  • Hospital Chowk

The service stretches from Dari Sangi to Chak No. 72-PN, making it easier for students, commuters, and the general public to stay connected.

Expanding Digital Infrastructure Across Punjab

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) is managing the project, which is part of a province-wide push to improve digital infrastructure.

So far, more than 270 free Wi-Fi hotspots have been activated across 11 districts, including major cities like:

  • Lahore (with over 200 active points)

  • Kasur

  • Nankana Sahib

  • Sheikhupura

  • Sialkot

  • Gujrat

  • Jhelum

  • Attock

  • Sahiwal

  • Okara

  • Murree

Usage Stats and Purpose

According to PSCA, over 13 million users have benefited from the service, collectively using more than 265 terabytes of data. The initiative is focused on providing accessible internet for everyday needs such as browsing, online learning, and communication.

However, authorities have clarified that the free Wi-Fi is not intended for video streaming, emergency calls, or entertainment purposes, ensuring fair use for all.

This digital upgrade comes as part of the Chief Minister’s broader vision to transform Punjab into a tech-forward, digitally inclusive province. As the service expands, more communities across Punjab can expect improved internet access, contributing to better education, productivity, and social connectivity.
