Punjab to Build Rs. 10 Billion Flyovers and Underpass to Ease Rawalpindi Traffic
The Punjab government is advancing a major infrastructure initiative aimed at tackling traffic congestion in Rawalpindi, with plans to construct two flyovers and an underpass at key locations, including Jinnah Park and Ammar Chowk.
According to the Communication and Works Department, the total estimated cost of the project is Rs. 10 billion, and the Project Concept-1 (PC-I) has already been submitted for approval.
A senior district official confirmed that the PC-I has been forwarded to the Punjab Planning Department and is likely to be reviewed in an upcoming meeting scheduled for next week.

Expected Benefits
Traffic engineering experts report that over 131,500 vehicles pass through Kutchery Chowk daily, particularly from Old Airport Road and Jhelum Road. The new flyovers and underpass are expected to significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks, improving both commute times and road safety.
This infrastructure upgrade is part of Punjab’s broader strategy to enhance urban mobility and modernize city infrastructure, aligning with its long-term urban development goals.
