Brandon Lowe, Jake Mangum Fuel Rays’ Big Inning in Win Over Angels
August 6 – ANAHEIM, Calif. — Brandon Lowe launched a two-run home run and Jake Mangum delivered a two-run single during a massive seven-run fourth inning, powering the Tampa Bay Rays to a 7-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night at Angel Stadium.
With the win, Tampa Bay snapped a skid on the road, earning just their second victory in the past 13 away games.
Pepiot Shines Early
Ryan Pepiot (7-9) was sharp, retiring the first 12 batters he faced and finishing with 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out six. The performance marked his third career win in as many starts against the Angels, ending a five-game winless streak.
Rays Break Out in the Fourth
After being held hitless through the first three innings by Angels starter Jose Soriano (7-9), the Rays’ bats came alive in the fourth. Yandy DÃaz led off with an infield single, and Brandon Lowe followed with a 411-foot blast to center, marking his 20th home run of the season — his fourth career 20-HR campaign.
The Rays then strung together five straight hits, including singles from Junior Caminero and Mangum, and a double from Josh Lowe. Mangum’s two-run single extended the lead to 4-0.
Later in the inning, Hunter Feduccia added a double, Taylor Walls executed a safety squeeze to bring in another run, and Chandler Simpson followed with an RBI double. DÃaz then capped the rally by driving in a run on a fielder’s choice, making it 7-0.
Angels Fight Back
The Angels responded in the fifth when Jo Adell hit his 23rd home run of the season — a 410-foot shot to left that also scored Taylor Ward, who had reached on an error. Adell later added an RBI single in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-3, but the Rays’ bullpen held strong to close out the game.
Adell finished 2-for-4 with all three RBIs for Los Angeles, who saw their brief two-game winning streak come to an end.
