Punjab Police Orders Action Against Officers Without Nameplates

LAHORE: Punjab Police authorities have directed officials to take action against police personnel who conduct public checks while wearing uniforms without visible nameplates.

According to police sources, complaints have been received about personnel setting up checkpoints, particularly at night, and checking citizens without displaying their names on their uniforms.

Action Ordered Against Violations

Following the complaints, senior police officials have instructed Station House Officers (SHOs) to take immediate action against personnel found carrying out checking duties without nameplates.

Sources said some police personnel were also detained on Canal Road after allegedly conducting checks without wearing the required nameplates.

The latest directions are aimed at ensuring that police personnel can be clearly identified while performing duties in public.

Citizens Advised to Contact Police Helpline

Police authorities have also advised citizens to contact the emergency helpline if they are stopped for checking by an officer who is not wearing a visible nameplate.

The Punjab Police website lists 15 as the police emergency number and 1787 as the IGP Complaint Center.

Punjab Police rules also require officers to wear the prescribed uniform while performing duties involving the exercise of police powers.

The department has been taking additional steps toward greater accountability, including the recent rollout of body-worn cameras for field personnel in Lahore.
