Carlos Alcaraz Values Time Off to Stay Motivated and Joyful on Court
Carlos Alcaraz emphasizes the importance of taking time for himself away from tennis to maintain his motivation and joy when playing.
The five-time Grand Slam champion is known for rewarding himself with vacations after strong performances, often choosing Ibiza as his go-to getaway in recent years.
After an incredible comeback win over Jannik Sinner in the French Open final, Alcaraz spent a few days relaxing in Ibiza. He then returned to action to win the Queen’s Club tournament and finished as runner-up at Wimbledon. Although he didn’t claim the Wimbledon title, he considered his grass-court season successful and took a two-week break in southern Spain afterward.
“I really enjoy having time for myself,” the 22-year-old said. “Sometimes it’s too many weeks in a row on the tour. I love playing tennis and stepping on the court, but I also need those breaks to recharge — spending time with family and friends, just relaxing at home.”
Alcaraz skipped the Toronto Masters but made his return at the Cincinnati Masters, where he secured a win over Damir Dzumhur following a first-round bye.
“For me, it’s important to come back stronger and hungry — ready to pick up the racket and hit some balls,” he added.
In Cincinnati, Alcaraz is set to face Hamad Medjedovic in the third round. While he is yet to win Cincinnati, he reached the final in 2023, finishing runner-up to Novak Djokovic.
