Cremonese Sack Marco Giampaolo After Italian Cup Win Over Parma

Cremonese have parted ways with coach Marco Giampaolo despite the Serie B side securing an impressive 2-0 victory over Serie A club Parma in the second round of the Italian Cup.
Giampaolo was dismissed shortly after Tuesday’s win, ending his spell in charge of the Lombardy-based club.
The decision comes after Cremonese made a difficult start to their Serie B campaign. The team lost its opening two league matches without scoring and conceded four goals.
Despite those results, Cremonese had made progress in the Italian Cup, winning their first-round match against Sampdoria 2-0 before producing another strong performance against Parma.
Giampaolo’s Short Spell Comes to an End
Giampaolo took charge of Cremonese in March with the task of helping the club remain in Serie A.
However, he was unable to prevent relegation, with Cremonese finishing third from bottom of the top-flight standings last season.
The club subsequently began life back in Serie B with two consecutive defeats, leading to the decision to make a coaching change despite the team’s cup success.
Cremonese thanked Giampaolo and his coaching staff for their work and commitment during their time at the club.
The club has not yet announced a replacement for the 58-year-old coach.
Jamie Vardy Also Left the Club
Cremonese have undergone further changes since their relegation from Serie A.
Former Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy departed the club in June after spending one season with the Italian side.
Vardy joined Cremonese after a long career in English football and was part of the squad during the club’s previous Serie A campaign.
Pressure Also Growing at Parma
Parma could also be facing a difficult period despite remaining in Serie A.
Coach Carlos Cuesta is reportedly under pressure after Parma lost both of its opening league matches of the new season.
The contrasting situations at the two clubs mean further coaching changes could be possible as the Italian domestic season continues.
