Punjab Unveils Details of Lahore’s Elevated Expressway

Lahore to Get Eco-Friendly Elevated Expressway to Ease Traffic

A high-level meeting on Monday reviewed plans for a new eco-friendly Elevated Expressway in Lahore, designed to reduce traffic congestion and provide daily commuters with faster travel options.

🚗 Four-Lane Expressway for 70,000 Passengers Daily
The proposed four-lane expressway will run from Gulberg to Babu Sabu along the city’s main stormwater drain. Once completed, it is expected to serve over 70,000 passengers every day.

Officials highlighted that the new route will reduce travel time between Gulberg Main Boulevard and Motorway M-2 to just 10 minutes. To improve connectivity, the project will feature six major interchanges, with additional links to the Metro Bus and Orange Line Metro Train routes.

🌿 Eco-Friendly Urban Development
Authorities emphasized that the expressway will not only ease traffic pressure but also help cut carbon emissions, aligning with the government’s green and sustainable transport policies.

The meeting, presided over by Secretary Housing Noor ul Amin Mengal, also discussed proposals to:

  • Relocate major city markets outside the urban core.

  • Allocate land near the motorway for a new bus terminal connected to the expressway.

🛣️ Next Steps
It was agreed to set up a Lahore Traffic Decongestion Committee to oversee the project’s planning and execution. A detailed Environmental Impact Study will also be conducted before final approval.

The final project plan will be presented to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for consideration. Senior officials from LDA, WASA Punjab, Nespak, and other departments attended the session.
