Majority of Americans Oppose US Military Action Against Iran, Poll Finds
A growing majority of Americans are opposed to the United States’ military campaign against Iran, according to a new public-opinion survey released Wednesday.
The poll found that 54% of Americans now oppose the US military action, while 39% support it. The latest figure marks the highest level of opposition recorded in the six months since the conflict began.
The survey was conducted by Global Strategy Group for Navigator Research, which regularly tracks public opinion on political, economic and major policy issues in the United States.
Independent Voters Show Strong Opposition
Opposition to the military campaign was particularly high among independent voters.
According to the survey, 66% of independent voters said they opposed US military involvement in Iran, highlighting growing concerns among voters who are not aligned with either major political party.
The poll also showed that Americans have become increasingly doubtful about the value of the conflict.
Overall, 58% said the war with Iran had not been worth it, including 41% who strongly expressed that view. Only 34% believed the conflict had been worth the cost.
The percentage of Americans saying the war was not worth it has increased by eight points since April, when 50% expressed that opinion.
Democrats Gain an Advantage on Iran Conflict
The survey also recorded a shift in which political group Americans trust to handle the Iran conflict.
Democrats now hold a four-point advantage over President Donald Trump and Republicans. About 36% said they trusted Democrats more, compared with 32% who preferred Trump and the Republican Party.
The results represent a notable change from March, shortly after the conflict began. At that time, Trump and Republicans held an eight-point advantage, with 39% trusting them compared with 31% for Democrats.
Trump Approval Rating Remains Under Pressure
The latest findings come after another poll showed President Donald Trump’s approval rating falling to its lowest level of his presidency.
A Reuters/Ipsos survey released last month found that only 33% of respondents approved of Trump’s performance, while 64% disapproved.
The same survey indicated that many Americans were concerned the conflict with Iran could continue for an extended period.
About 80% of respondents believed US involvement in Iran would last for a long time. That included 87% of Democrats and 71% of Republicans.
Only 16% believed the conflict was likely to end within a few weeks.
Poll Surveyed More Than 1,100 Americans
The latest survey was conducted online among 1,166 US adults from across the country.
The poll has a margin of error of approximately 3 percentage points in either direction.
The findings suggest that public opinion surrounding the Iran conflict has continued to shift, with opposition to military involvement increasing while concerns about the duration and cost of the conflict remain widespread.
