Security Forces Reportedly Foil Infiltration Attempt Along Afghan Border, 15 Killed
Pakistan’s security forces have foiled an alleged infiltration attempt along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, killing 15 suspected militants, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
In a statement issued on Thursday, ISPR said the group attempted to cross into North Waziristan during the night between August 31 and September 1.
According to the military’s media wing, security personnel detected the movement and responded to the attempted crossing. The engagement continued for around 36 hours, after which 15 militants were killed, ISPR said.
Weapons and Ammunition Recovered
Following the operation, security forces carried out a sanitization operation in the area. ISPR said a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the site.
The military stated that the recovery of the equipment provided further information about the group’s activities and alleged plans to carry out attacks and disrupt peace and stability in Pakistan.
ISPR also reiterated Pakistan’s concerns regarding cross-border militancy and the use of Afghan territory by militant groups.
Security Operation Continues
Security forces are continuing search and sanitization activities in the area to determine whether any other militants remain nearby.
ISPR said the ongoing counterterrorism campaign under Azm-e-Istehkam will continue as part of efforts to address security threats and prevent militant infiltration.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the security forces for preventing the attempted infiltration and commended their efforts in maintaining security along the border.
Recent Counterterrorism Operations
The latest incident comes days after other security operations in different parts of the country.
On Monday, security forces reported killing 12 militants following an attack on a convoy associated with the Reko Diq copper and gold project in Chagai.
On the same day, two militants were reported killed during an intelligence-based operation in Washuk district of Balochistan.
Security agencies continue to conduct operations in various areas as part of Pakistan’s broader efforts to address militant activity and improve security.
