PTA Updates DIRBS to Improve Mobile Device Management in Pakistan
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken steps to enhance the efficiency of the Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS) by offloading old IMEI records of mobile devices. This move is aimed at streamlining system performance and improving overall management.
According to PTA, the update will help both the authority and Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) run DIRBS more effectively, ensuring smoother operations and better service for mobile users.
Key Points:
-
IMEI Update: Old mobile device records have been cleared to optimize DIRBS performance.
-
Encouraging Compliance: Users are urged to register their devices and pay the applicable FBR duties/taxes to maintain a fully compliant digital ecosystem.
-
Device Blocking Rules: Any unregistered mobile phone will remain active for 60 days. If customs duties are not paid within this period, the device will be re-blocked under DIRBS regulations.
PTA emphasizes its commitment to maintaining a transparent, consumer-friendly, and secure mobile network across Pakistan.
