MIAMI: Lionel Messi showcased his class once again as Inter Miami defeated Seattle Sounders 3-1 on Tuesday night, avenging their Leagues Cup final loss just over two weeks ago.
The match saw Messi make an immediate impact, assisting Jordi Alba in the 12th minute with a precise outside-of-the-foot pass to give Miami an early lead. Messi came close to doubling the score in the 28th minute, but his shot off a clever through ball hit the post.
In the 41st minute, Alba returned the favor, setting up Messi for the second goal. Inter Miami extended their lead after halftime when Ian Fray headed in a Rodrigo De Paul corner to make it 3-0. Seattle managed a consolation goal late in the match, but the Herons secured a convincing victory.
Reflecting on the win, Alba said, “I’m always looking for him (Messi), he’s always looking for me. We’ve created a lot of goals and we hope it’s like that until the end of our careers.” Fray added, “It was definitely a little extra motivation. After losing a game like that, you don’t forget it.”
