Fans Express Concern Over World Cup Ticket Seat Allocation

10 April 2026

Some football fans have raised concerns over FIFA’s World Cup ticketing system, claiming that seat allocations did not match their expectations based on category maps provided during the purchase process.

More than 3 million tickets have reportedly been sold ahead of the upcoming tournament, with fans selecting from four ticket categories during a lottery-based sales system. However, instead of choosing exact seats, buyers were only able to select general seating categories within stadiums.

According to fan reports, some ticket holders believe they have received seats that appear to fall outside their selected category, leading to confusion and disappointment.

One fan, who purchased a Category 1 ticket, said they were instead assigned a seat associated with Category 2. He expressed frustration over the lack of clarity in the seating arrangement, saying that expectations did not match the final allocation.

FIFA has responded by stating that the seating maps were intended only as a general guide, helping fans understand possible seating zones within stadiums rather than guaranteeing exact seat positions. The organization explained that the category layouts reflect overall sections rather than precise seat assignments.

Despite this explanation, some fans have reported dissatisfaction and have submitted complaints, with a few even considering further action regarding the ticketing process.

The situation has sparked wider discussion among supporters about transparency in ticket sales and how seating categories are communicated for major global sporting events.
