US F-16 Crashes in Germany During Training Exercise, Pilot Ejects Safely

A US Air Force F-16 fighter jet based at Spangdahlem Air Base in western Germany crashed on Tuesday after a training exercise, with the pilot safely ejecting from the aircraft, the US military said.

The pilot was taken for medical treatment following the incident. Emergency response teams were also deployed at the crash site.

The US military said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Germany’s air traffic control authority said four F-16 aircraft had been taking part in a training exercise before the incident.

According to the authority, two of the jets remained in the training area while the other two began returning to Spangdahlem Air Base. One of the returning aircraft is believed to have crashed while approaching the base.

The other F-16s involved in the exercise landed safely at Ramstein Air Base, the German authority said.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
