Punjab Government Announces Major Plans to Upgrade Sports Infrastructure

The Government of Punjab Pakistan has unveiled an ambitious plan to improve sports infrastructure and promote athletic development across the province.

During a key meeting of the Sports Board Punjab, chaired by Provincial Sports Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar, several important decisions were approved to strengthen the sports sector.

As part of the initiative, modern swimming pools will be constructed in all divisional headquarters. To encourage wider participation, especially among youth, swimming registration fees will also be reduced by 50%.

Officials further approved the establishment of a modern control room within the sports department, along with the introduction of a camera-based monitoring system for sports complexes across Punjab to improve oversight and management.

A key performance indicator (KPI)-based evaluation system will be introduced to assess staff performance, reward efficiency, and address underperformance in a transparent manner.

The meeting also endorsed the creation of the University of Sports Sciences Punjab, aimed at promoting research, education, and advanced training in sports.

In addition, plans were approved for developing a housing colony for employees of the sports department, along with the implementation of an annual sports calendar to ensure regular events and activities.

Authorities also decided to outsource certain sports facilities and conduct income audits across divisions and districts to improve financial transparency.

The meeting supported signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the Mian Mir Squash Complex, while emphasizing stronger accountability and governance measures.

The provincial government reaffirmed its commitment to modernizing sports infrastructure and providing improved facilities and opportunities for young athletes across Punjab.
