Pakistan’s Internet Connections Reach 5.10 Million in 2026

Pakistan’s internet connections have increased to 5.10 million in 2026, showing significant growth compared to 1.9 million connections recorded in 2024.

The increase reflects continued expansion in the country’s digital infrastructure and growing adoption of online services nationwide. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a review meeting focused on the development of the Information Technology (IT) sector and efforts to boost IT exports.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted the potential of Pakistan’s youth in the technology sector and emphasized the importance of creating more opportunities for digital growth and innovation. He also directed authorities to improve the performance of Easy Service Centers to enhance public services and administrative efficiency.

Officials discussed measures aimed at reducing the digital divide between urban and rural areas. The Prime Minister stressed the need for cooperation between provincial and district administrations to ensure wider access to digital resources and IT-related opportunities across the country.

Pakistan’s IT exports are expected to reach between $4.5 billion and $4.6 billion during the current fiscal year, reflecting continued progress in the sector.

The meeting also reviewed recent developments related to 5G services in Pakistan. Authorities noted that the recent spectrum auction generated approximately $509 million in revenue.

Several initiatives related to digital education and connectivity were also highlighted, including the successful Indus AI Week held in February 2026, which featured participation from international delegates across multiple cities.

In addition, internet access has been expanded to public schools and health units in Islamabad, while the installation of free public Wi-Fi hotspots is nearing completion in various parts of the city.

The government is also working on establishing e-learning pods at locations including Syed Pur Model Village and Fatima Jinnah Park to improve access to digital education and online learning resources.
