Pakistan Test Captain Shan Masood Likely to Step Down After Bangladesh Series Defeat
Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood is reportedly expected to resign from his role following Pakistan’s 78-run defeat in the final Test against Bangladesh, which resulted in a 2-0 series whitewash in Sylhet.
The defeat marked a difficult series for Pakistan, with Bangladesh completing a historic sweep at home.
Captaincy record
Shan Masood was appointed Pakistan’s Test captain in 2023 ahead of the tour of Australia. His first assignment ended in a 3-0 series defeat.
So far, he has led Pakistan in 16 Test matches, winning four and losing 12, with a win rate of 25%.
Post-match remarks
Speaking after the match, Masood said his focus has always been on improving Pakistan’s red-ball cricket structure rather than short-term outcomes. He added that key decisions regarding leadership and team direction ultimately rest with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
He also emphasized his commitment to the team, stating that his approach remains the same regardless of his role.
Call for improvement
Masood highlighted the demanding nature of Test cricket, noting that small mistakes can have major consequences over five days. He called for greater discipline and consistency across all departments of the team.
While no official confirmation has been issued yet, reports suggest that changes in leadership may be considered following the series defeat.
