Serena Williams’ Queen’s Club Doubles Future Uncertain After Victoria Mboko Injury

Mboko, a rising Canadian tennis player, withdrew from her match against Karolina Pliskova on Wednesday after appearing to injure her left knee during the second set. The incident occurred when she slipped while attempting to return a shot, prompting immediate medical attention on court.

Despite initially getting back on her feet, Mboko expressed concerns about the stability of her knee and was unable to continue, leading to her retirement from the match.

The injury raises questions about the pair’s participation in the doubles quarterfinals, where Williams and Mboko are scheduled to face Leylah Fernandez and Laura Siegemund. As of Wednesday evening, the duo remained on the official tournament schedule.

Williams, 44, made her highly anticipated return to competitive tennis this week after nearly four years away from the sport. She and Mboko enjoyed a successful start by winning their opening doubles match on Tuesday.

Tournament officials have yet to provide an update on Mboko’s condition, and a final decision regarding her participation is expected before Thursday’s match.

Tennis fans will be closely monitoring developments, as Mboko’s fitness could determine whether Williams’ comeback campaign at Queen’s Club continues beyond the opening round.
