Canada, Australia and Chinese Taipei opened their WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Prague campaigns with impressive victories on the first day of competition.

The tournament’s opening day featured competitive matchups, strong offensive performances and exciting moments as teams began their quest for a place in the next stage of the competition.

Canada Edges Italy in High-Scoring Thriller

World No. 4 Canada secured a hard-fought victory over World No. 9 Italy in one of the most entertaining games of the day.

Both teams produced strong offensive displays, combining for 26 hits and four home runs during the contest. The closely fought encounter remained level through regulation before Canada ultimately claimed victory in the eighth inning.

The win gives Canada an important early boost in the group standings.

Australia Defeats Host Nation Czechia

Australia earned a valuable win against Czechia in their opening match.

The game remained competitive until the third inning when Shaylan Whatman delivered a crucial home run to give Australia the lead.

The matchup experienced a 25-minute rain delay during the opening inning, but Chinese Taipei quickly settled after play resumed.

Cuba started strongly and held an early lead, but Chinese Taipei responded with an impressive offensive display.

A key turning point came when Chih-Ying Lin hit a three-run home run to extend her team’s advantage. Later in the game, Chia-Wen Shen added a two-run homer as Chinese Taipei continued to build momentum.

Strong defense and consistent hitting helped Chinese Taipei secure the victory and begin their World Cup campaign on a positive note.
